.TUESDAY EVENING SESSIONS
1. Arctic Sports
These traditional sports from the North are fun and physically very challenging. Try out the one foot high kick, two foot high kick, Alaskan high kick, one hand reach, airplane, kneel jump, arm pull, knuckle hop, triple jump, bench reach, etc.
Arctic Winter Games Preparation
The Arctic Winter Games symbolize athletic competition, cultural exhibition and social interchange. The AWG 2016 will be held in Greenland. Come to this session to find out how you can become involved as a participant in a sport or cultural event.
3. Delectable Desserts
Have fun making (and enjoying!) a tasty dessert.
4. Environment: Protect the Poles, Protect the Planet - You Can Make a Difference
How does a teenager make a difference in this world? How can youth get involved in protecting our precious planet? This session highlights the incredible and effective contributions to environmental sustainability made by young people, particularly those associated with the organization
Students on Ice (SOI)
. You will see photos from the Arctic and Antarctic and hear the stories of activist youth… and a few songs too! You will be encouraged to explore the gifts and ideas you have and how to put them into action.
Hike + Zumba
Get outside to enjoy an evening hike (75 minutes), then energize yourself with 75 minutes of Zumba
Explore the basics of book making as you create an explosion book. Everything you need will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring something to put in your book such as photographs (~ten to twelve), favourite quotes, poetry, doodles or ideas.
Paramedic for a Night
You will explore the work of a paramedic including the inner workings of the ambulance and equipment. You will also get a chance to ride in an ambulance.
Vet for a Night
Join our local veterinarian and volunteers at the Dawson City Humane Society.
Wild ‘n Rosie
Prepare and take home personal care products made using traditional plants (lip balm, bath bombs, shampoo, etc.). This session will be led by a Tr'ondëk Hwëch’in esthetician.
WEDNESDAY EVENING SESSIONS
If you are in the Ancestral Technologies/On the Land session, you will be camping overnight on Wednesday, so please do not select an evening session.
Athletics: Floor Hockey, Soccer, and Volleyball
Friendly, sports completion for all levels. 50 minutes for each sport.
Beading and Storytelling
You will get help from Tr'ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation beaders to learn basic beading techniques or improve your existing beading skills. Enjoy some storytelling by a Tr'ondëk Hwëch’in Elder while you bead.
3. Chess Ladder
Come to play, come to learn, come to have fun! Open to all skill levels.
4. Dene Games
Discover and have fun with the Dene Games: hand games, finger pull, stick pull, snow snake, and pull-push. Learn how to get involved with Yukon’s contingent to the International Dene Games Competition.
5. Firefighter for a Night
Have you ever wondered about becoming a volunteer firefighter? Join the station for a night to see what it’s all about. You will also get a tour of the Firefighter Museum.
6. First Nations Art
In this session, you will learn First Nations Art alongside a well-established, successful Tr'ondëk Hwëch’in artist.
Head over to Dawson’s new hospital for a hands-on exploration of the latest medical equipment with one of the local doctors.
8. Sushi Making
Prepare and enjoy sushi in a session led by a local master sushi maker.
9. Trapping: An Introduction
Join a certified trapping instructor to learn about Yukon furbearers, fur handling and trapping. Hands-on activities include making snares, setting traps, and skinning a squirrel. Hear stories from the wild side of life!
THURSDAY EVENING SESSIONS
If you are interested in trying archery, come out to this shooting night, led by the Yukon Aboriginal Sports Circle. This session is open to all levels, including beginners.
2. Bannock and Salmon
Prepare (and enjoy!) bannock and salmon in a session led by Tr'ondëk Hwëch’in citizens.
3. Best of the Best are Best at the Basics
To be at your best, you must first master the basics! The best performing athletes can benefit from focusing on the basic movements of their sport and be even better! For every athlete, mastering sport skills with precision means breaking it down to the fundamental movement patterns. Athletes spend hours learning sport skills when they are young; however, as they mature, they often forget to re-visit the basic drills and skills required for higher-level sport performance. Join this session and you will undoubtedly be able to take this back to your next practice.
4. Hike + Yoga
Get outside to enjoy an evening hike (75 minutes), then wind down with 75 minutes of yoga.
5. Mining Matters
What better place than the Home of the Gold Rush to learn all about Yukon’s geology and mining in a hands-on session, including introduction to WHERE CHALLENGE and showcasing Yukon mineral deposits with particular emphasis on the Dawson area.
6. Music Jam Session
Come to the music room to jam with fellow musicians and Dawson’s own local band, The River Bends.
7. RCMP for a Night
Want to learn more about a career as a police officer? Join the Dawson City detachment for a hands-on experience.
